I’m Sad

You keep looking for a good enough reason to justify having a difficult day.

I feel low, tearful or heavy.

Common signs...

You may feel...

You are looking for a reason convincing enough to let yourself have a difficult day.

What might be going on

Sadness can follow loss, disappointment, loneliness or a difficult stretch. Sometimes the reason is obvious and sometimes it is not. You do not need a tidy explanation before you can respond to the feeling.

Try this now

Get a little air or daylight if you can. Tell one person you are having a low day, or write down the thing that feels heaviest. Do not make yourself solve it before you are allowed some support.

Reflection

I feel low, tearful or heavy.

What would make today easier to carry, even if it cannot fix the reason I am sad?

Did company, space or getting outside make the feeling easier to carry? If low mood continues or gets worse, speak to your GP.

Something You Need To Hear

Why this card fits
Five of Cups is useful here because it makes room for both loss and support.

Practical point
You can be genuinely sad about what is missing and still accept comfort from what is available. Support does not cancel the loss, and the loss does not make support pointless.

Next Step

Get a little air or daylight if you can. Tell one person you are having a low day, or write down the thing that feels heaviest. Do not make yourself solve it before you are allowed some support.
