Emma Cottrell's Hair & Healing
Hair Care & Advice
Preparing for your best hair colour experience? Here are my pre appointment tips to ensure the best results.

Pre Colour Advice
Patch test required
A patch test is required at least 48 hours before all colour appointments, even if you’ve coloured your hair before.
This is a legal and safety requirement and helps ensure your appointment can go ahead as planned.
Avoid box dyes, henna, or metallic salts
Please avoid using box dyes, henna, or home colour products before your appointment.
These can react unpredictably with professional colour and may limit what can safely be achieved.
Be honest about your hair history
Let me know about any previous colour, treatments, or chemical services — even if they were some time ago.
This helps me tailor your appointment and avoid unwanted reactions or surprises
Healthy hair means better colour
Hair that is in good condition absorbs and holds colour more evenly.
If your hair feels dry or fragile, we may adjust your service to protect its integrity and ensure long-lasting results.
Post Colour Advice
Avoid washing for 48 hours.
This your new colour to set and extend its longevity.
Protect From Heat & Sun
Heat styling and sun exposure can fade colour — use protection where possible.
Use Gentle Haircare
Use sulphate-free shampoo & conditioner to protect your colour.
Book Your Next Colour
Colour looks best when maintained — ask your stylist about timing.
